Becoming the Person You Were Meant to Be

· Dr. Catherine · 3 min read

This past weekend, I found myself in Provincetown—a place that feels like the edge of the world in the best possible way. There were languid beach days, new friends, glacial lakes so clear you could see the bottom, and more raw oysters than I could comfortably eat.
I ended up turning off my phone for 36 hours. In that negative space—that intentional emptiness—something profound happened. Clarity arrived, not with fanfare, but quietly, like the tide coming in. I began to see my relationships, my work, my life with fresh eyes. It reminded me that sometimes becoming the person you were meant to be requires releasing who you thought you should be.

Becoming the person you were meant to be is hard work.
Sometimes the realness of who you are comes in fits and starts, popping through at the most surprising times, joyously overshadowing the stories we've been told about ourselves—stories that probably aren't even true.
It is in the negative space—the painting's blank canvas—where clarity comes through. This weekend was that for me. Those languid days in Provincetown weren't just a vacation; they were a reclamation.
New friends who saw me as I am now, not who I was. Copious amounts of raw oysters and steamed mussels with garlic butter and chorizo (good thing I'm not kosher!).
And those glacial lakes—so clear and blue, with so few people that I could remove my bathing suit ten or twenty feet out and feel utterly, gloriously reborn.
The Gift of Letting Go In releasing and letting go, something emerged about the nature of my relationships and work-life balance. New ways to envision my days differently. Permission to honor rest as much as productivity.
We spend so much time filling our calendars, our minds, our bodies with noise. We're convinced that busy equals worthy. But it's in the unfilled moments—the spaces between—that the magic happens.
Your Invitation So here's my question for you: What does downtime bring you? Especially if you turn off your phone for 36 hours? Is there agitation from unfilled time, or does its expanse remake your life anew?
I'd love to hear from you. Hit reply and tell me—when was the last time you unplugged?
What did you discover?
What If You Could Wake Up Feeling Lighter? More than ever, we're all looking for ways to feel lighter, more comfortable in our skin, and genuinely relaxed.
If you've been waking up feeling puffy, bloated, or just heavy—despite doing "all the right things"—this post is for you.
I dive into the often-overlooked connections between morning bloating, fatigue, and hormonal shifts that so many women experience during perimenopause and beyond. What You'll Learn:
  • Why bloating isn't just about what you ate last night
  • The role of lymphatic drainage in helping you wake up feeling refreshed
  • Simple morning rituals that support your body's natural detox processes
  • How sleep quality and stress affect how you feel when you open your eyes
This isn't about restriction or complicated protocols. It's about understanding your body's rhythms and giving yourself what you actually need.
Think of it as a love letter to your morning self—the one who deserves to feel light, energized, and ready to take on the day.

Everything old is new again this week—I'm turning the pages of Donna Tartt's beloved 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner, The Goldfinch. If you're not familiar with it, here's the premise: thirteen-year-old Theodore Decker survives a terrorist attack at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that upends his life.
In the chaos, he takes a small, exquisite painting—Carel Fabritius's The Goldfinch—and his life spirals into a decade-long journey of grief, beauty, obsession, and self-discovery. Dr. Catherine Wellness, LLC. | 10 Deblois St. Newport, Rhode Island, 02840
