Caring for yourself is the most important thing you can do as a caregiver
Hi ,
I bet you are a bit like me, you go into caregiving mode without even thinking about it. As women, we often engage in extensive caregiving when we are exhausted and running on empty.
While caring for others can be amazing, if we can be honest, this role can be challenging for both the caregiver and the recipient, who may not find the situation enjoyable either.
Throughout my two decades of supporting women, I've encountered none who aren't stretching themselves thin in caring for others.
Allocating time for self-care is crucial for anyone in a caregiving position.
To get started, identify at least one activity that brings you joy or relaxation; you've earned it.
When devising your self-care strategy, avoid attempting to overhaul your life overnight, especially if the mere idea of self-care adds to your sense of overwhelm.
Below are several self-care suggestions to inspire you:
Engage in physical activity.Eat nutritiously. Get out in nature.
Give priority to getting adequate sleep.
Work on stress reduction. Turn off your phone for an hour.
Allocate time for relaxation.
Attend to your personal health needs.
Seek support when necessary.
Allow yourself to take breaks as needed. Here's the link to a recent Instagram post on the topic. If you get something from this post, please share it with a friend, like it on Instagram, and tag me! Sending warmth, Dr. Catherine WATCH THE VIDEO
