My skincare routine👇

Dr. Catherine's Blog on Wellness My summer skincare routine Hi , I get asked all the time about my skincare routine. I’m almost 50 and started playing with skincare in 8th grade. Most of it - I credit to my fascination with playing in the mud and making potions out of plants as a child. So that’s tip #1: Have fun getting messy! Just kidding 😂 In all seriousness, skincare get’s talked about a lot, but most of it is trying to sell you stuff. Few like to say it out loud - but healthy skin is more important that perfect skin  :) Here’s my simple skincare routine (that anyone can copy): Here's a short video showing my double cleanse.

1) Use Sunblock

When I was in my mid 20’s, I met one of the most beautiful older woman I had ever seen. She was wearing a lovely white linen dress and had amazing skin, I was in awe. She whispered to me, “Sweetheart, it’s all about preservation, you have to care for your skin” And the easiest way to start is by using sunblock. I use a Bloomeffects Tulip Dew Sunscreen Serum - it’s my absolute favorite. If you only try one thing, use sunblock. It’s a game-changer.

2) Double Cleanse at Night

Once a day, I use an oil based cleanser by Then I Met You - Living Cleansing Balm (lipids aka oils help remove lipids) It’s made with sea buckthorn oil. After, I use a water based cleanser by Then I Met You - Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel - both products smell great. You’ll want to use them twice a day - but don’t 😂 I do this once a day during the summer when our skin is more likely to be exposed to dehydration from AC, chlorine or bromine from pools or salt from the beach.

3) Moisturize Selectively

At night, I keep it simple.  If my skin feels good after the double cleanse, I leave it alone. If my face feels dry, I like to rub a small amount of ozonated castor oil on my face, massage it into the skin. I wipe the excess of with a soft face towel that I’ve moistened with a bit of warm water.  Again, I know this may seem like a lot. So start simple. Just start with sunblock - and then build up to these things. Over time, it will slowly compound.

4) Schedule regular face lymphatic drainage

While I do this and other lymphatic treatments for my patients, I can’t really do a full treatment on myself.  So I go regularly to see my friend Cheryl Ferrari in Boston. She is amazing. I can go on and on about lymphatic detoxification and all of it’s benefits, but I will leave that for another email <3

5) Drink more water

Another thing I emphasize is drinking a lot of water. I try to chug 10-12 ounces of water as soon as I wake up and I leave a bottle out on my table at night - so when I wake up I see it and drink it. It’s little habits like these that truly do add up over time.

Focus on consistency

I’ve been doing a lot of this stuff consistently for the past 35+ years, and now, I almost don’t think about it. But at the start, it can be overwhelming. If you miss a day, don’t beat yourself up. Just focus on doing it the next day. Start small. Make things easy for yourself. And have fun with it! Rooting for you, Dr. Cat  Ps.
